Conditions Acupuncture can treat:
Does Acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are typically not much thicker than a hair, and their insertion is practically painless. It is nothing like receiving an ordinary injection, where the needle is 30x thicker than the filiform acupuncture needles. In some cases, you will not even know the needles are in place. In others, there may be some tingling, warmth, heaviness, or a feeling of the Qi moving up and down the channels. Most people find acupuncture extremely relaxing, and many fall asleep during treatment.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

When performed by a competently trained, licensed professional, acupuncture is definitely safe. All licensed acupuncturists today use individually packaged, sterile, disposable single-use needles, so there is virtually no chance of infection or contagion. Since 2008 the BC Ministry of Health has approved acupuncture by a Registered Acupuncturist as an effective and safe treatment option covered under MSP for  premium assistance patients.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Modern western medicine cannot yet explain how acupuncture works. Traditional Asian acupuncture is rooted in 2500 years of history and is based on regulating & balancing the body's energy systems called meridians. A skilled Registered Acupuncturist can effectively treat both muscular/joint pain issues and internal issues like headaches, digestive problems etc.

What Can I Expect During & After Treatment?

Gwen will patiently explain the acupuncture process with all new patients. It is recommended that first time patients wear loose comfortable clothing and have a small meal or snack 40 min prior to the session.

Emphasis is on patient comfort and her technique is gentle and painless. All that is required from the patient is to relax, refrain from sudden movement or change of position and enjoy the treatment. (Yes, most patients do enjoy the experience!) Some patients will receive immediate total or partial relief of their pain or other symptoms, that in turn will diminish over a course of treatments. Generally, you should expect to feel better.
